▼ Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield: Wellmark ends all Medicare Advantage coverage in Iowa and South Dakota after Dec. 31, 2026
Wellmark says on its own site that Medicare Advantage coverage through Wellmark Advantage Health Plan will no longer be available after Dec. 31, 2026. The Iowa Insurance Division says more than 87,000 Iowans have been told their Medicare plan is canceled or leaving their county for 2027. With Wellmark's and Medica's PPOs both ending, no Iowa Medicare Advantage plan keeps Mayo Clinic in network. Members whose Medicare Advantage plan is canceled have a guaranteed-issue right to buy a Medicare Supplement policy without medical underwriting.
Your move
Move Wellmark Medicare Advantage clients by Dec. 31 so their coverage starts Jan. 1 without a gap. Clients who miss that date have a special enrollment period through Feb. 28, 2027. For clients who use Mayo Clinic, quote Original Medicare plus a guaranteed-issue Medicare Supplement and a Part D plan, because no Iowa Medicare Advantage plan keeps Mayo in network.
