▼ Sharp Health Plan: Sharp Health Plan ends its individual Medicare Advantage plans in San Diego County
Sharp Health Plan says it will no longer offer individual Medicare Advantage plans in 2027, and coverage ends Dec. 31, 2026. Its employer group retiree plans, including CalPERS, SDPEBA and Teamsters, continue. The non-renewal notice gives members a special enrollment period through Feb. 28, 2027, and a guaranteed-issue Medicare Supplement right through March 4, 2027. About 17,000 San Diego County members are affected. Sharp HealthCare hospitals say that for individual plans, they accept UnitedHealthcare's Medicare Advantage plans.
Your move
Pull your Sharp Direct Advantage clients (H5386-003 to -006) and place them by Dec. 31. For clients who want to keep Sharp doctors, check the plans Sharp HealthCare accepts for 2027 before you quote. For clients leaving Medicare Advantage, write a guaranteed-issue Medicare Supplement by March 4, 2027. Leave CalPERS and other group retirees alone, because their plan continues.
